Low pH is the quietest expensive problem in well water. It has no taste and no smell, and the symptom is your plumbing rather than your water: blue green staining on fixtures from dissolved copper, and eventually pinhole leaks.
It is also the reason this page carries a warning the others do not. Corrosive water is what mobilizes lead from solder and from brass fittings, so on any house where those are possible, low pH is a lead question and that means a test at the tap rather than a product decision.

Calcite works from about pH 6.0 upward. Below 5.5 it cannot keep up and soda ash injection is the answer.

Media pH windows are published by the media suppliers. No packaged residential soda ash feed system appears to be sold through this channel, only general purpose chemical metering pumps, so that option is a specified installation rather than a boxed product.
Calcite adds hardness, which changes everything behind it
A calcite neutralizer works by dissolving calcium carbonate into the water. That is the mechanism, not a side effect, so it necessarily raises hardness as it raises pH.
The consequence matters for the whole system. The neutralizer goes first in the treatment train, and any softener behind it must be sized on the RAISED hardness rather than the raw figure off your original test. Sizing on the original number undersizes the softener and it runs out of capacity early.
It also means the calcite bed is a genuine consumable. It literally dissolves away and needs topping up, typically annually.
Why pH is measured at the tap as well as the source
pH can shift between the well and the faucet, and the direction tells you something. Water that is aggressive at the source picks up copper and possibly lead on the way through the plumbing, so a first draw sample after the water has sat overnight is the one that shows what you are actually drinking.
That is the same sampling method used for lead, and on a house with any possibility of lead solder or brass fittings, the two tests belong together.
